Week of December 1

Hi everyone,

I can't believe I'm writing a blog post for the month of December and it is almost the end of the semester. There are three weeks left until exams and Christmas break. Here is what I have planned for the upcoming week:

Computers 1
We will begin the final chapter in Excel, adding new formulas and concepts, such as absolute cell references. On Friday, I will be out of class and students will watch a documentary on Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple.

Business Concepts
On Monday, we will start chapter 7 over the use of credit. Students will look at credit card statements and credit card offers, and will learn about the minimum payment trap. On Friday, they will watch a documentary called In Debt We Trust. There will be no outside homework this week.

Business Law
On Monday, we will review chapter 6 over contract offer and acceptance. On Tuesday, students will take a test over the chapter and turn in their notes. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will take notes over chapter 8 which covers the requirement of consideration in contracts. On Friday, students will complete their final case brief and chapter 8 study guides will be due at the end of the hour.

I think that's it for this week. Have a good one!

Week of November 24

Hi everyone,

I want to apologize to anyone using TeacherEase to look at student grades. The internet at school was off/on all last week and I wasn't able to input my grades as usual. Grades for all classes, with the exception of business law, are now completely up to date. I will have business law grades in by tomorrow afternoon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We have a very short week this week. Students will only be in classes on Monday, as Tuesday will be a school-wide activity day with volleyball, pickleball, movies, etc. In all classes, we will just be wrapping things up before break. I will have extra credit assignments available in Computers 1.

I think that's it for this week. I hope you all have a restful and wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Week of November 17

Hi everyone,

One more full week before Thanksgiving break. Here is what I have planned for this week:

Computers 1
Students will continue using formulas to create Excel spreadsheets. On Thursday, we will review the chapter and on Friday students will take a test.

Business Concepts
On Monday, students will work on checking packets in class for the last time. Any student not finished with his/her packet may take it home to finish. Completed packets will be due at the beginning of the hour on Thursday. On Thursday, we will also take a test over checking accounts and I will collect chapter notes.

Business Law
On Monday, we will start chapter 6 over contract law. Students will be completing case briefs in class and analyzing contract scenarios. There should be no outside homework.

I think that's it for this week. Have a good one!

Week of November 10

Hi everyone,

This week looks as though it will be a bit chaotic. Tuesday we are out of school in honor of Veteran's Day. On Wednesday, I will be out of the classroom all day in meetings and on Thursday I will be taking students in last year's play on a field trip. On Friday, most of the junior class will be gone on a career field trip.

Here is what I have planned, but I'm expecting this to be more flexible than usual:

Computers 1
We will continue creating spreadsheets in Excel using basic formulas. There will be no outside homework.

Business Concepts
Students will work on their checking packets all week. Due date is still tentative but will not be this week. Students receive participation points each day for working in class.

Business Law
On Monday, we will finish watching A Civil Action and students will begin writing their response papers in class. On Wednesday, they will have all hour to work on their papers. Plans for Thursday and Friday are undecided, but there will be no outside homework.

I think that's it for this week. Have a good one and thank you to all of our veterans!

Week of November 3

Hi everyone,

Don't forget to turn your clocks back tonight. Enjoy your extra hour of sleep! Here is what I have planned for the upcoming week:

Computers 1
On Monday, we will review for a test over the first chapter in Excel. On Tuesday, students will take the test. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will complete the first project in the second chapter of Excel together. On Friday we will watch a movie about technology.

Due to a meeting scheduled during my 9th hour class on Monday, their schedule will be a bit different than in my other computer classes. This class will watch the movie on Monday and then complete the above activities the rest of the week.

Business Concepts
This week we will start chapter 6 over checking accounts. Students will complete checking packets provided by First National Bank. Packets will be worked on in class with students receiving participation points for staying on task. Completed packets are worth 150 points (the equivalent of approximately three tests). Their due date will be announced later. Packets will not be taken home and must be completed in class.

Business Law
On Monday, we will finish the notes for chapter 5. On Tuesday, chapter study guides will be due and we will review for the test. On Wednesday we will take a test over the chapter and I will collect notes. On Thursday and Friday, students will be watching the movie A Civil Action and will write a response paper in class next week.

I think that's it for this week. Have a good one.
